Baratza Encore™ ESP Pro Coffee and Espresso Grinder
Encore™ ESP Pro Coffee and Espresso Grinder
Baratza's Encore™ ESP Pro is the latest in their series of entry level Encore grinders, featuring stepless grind adjustment and 40 espresso settings. Housed in a compact zinc and ABS frame, the grinder offers both timed and single dosing modes and a wide array of accessories and configurations to aid in both espresso and filter coffee work flows.
Features and Benefits
In a first for Baratza the Encore ESP Pro uses stepless grind adjustment, with grind position tracked digitally and displayed on a screen in increments of 0.5 between 0 and 60. 40 of the 60 identified settings fall within Baratza's identified espresso range with the remaining 20 being suited for filter brew methods. Grinding speed and particle consistency are aided by a removable flow control disc that regulates the feed of beans into the grinding chamber.
Based on your equipment and workflow the grinder has a removable bean hopper and single dosing lid as well as the option to switch between timed and single dose grinding modes. In timed mode, the ESP Pro can be programmed within 1/10 of a second increments for precise and repeatable dosing. In single dosing mode, the grinder will operate continuously until all of the beans have been ground. The bean hopper holds up to 300g of whole bean coffee and features a shutoff mechanism for easy removal. The ESP Pro can accept up to 45g at a time while in single dose mode.
Suited for both espresso and filter grinding, the Encore ESP Pro comes with 120g ground coffee container as well as a variable 54-58mm dosing cup to flip transfer coffee into portafilters. Grinding is illuminated by a pair of lights on either side of the grinds chute and static is largely mitigated by built-in ion generation.
Why You Should Get It
For many, the original Baratza Encore was their first home grinder and the Encore ESP Pro looks to continue that tradition. It may be designated as an espresso grinder, but the ESP Pro is still perfectly capable of handling pour-over and a wide range of other filter methods while still featuring grind adjustment and workflow optimization that benefits espresso preparation. This is the perfect grinder for anyone looking for an all-rounder that will allow for entry level experimentation will all brew methods.
